Taking a good photograph is almost a crap shoot and often a matter of sheer luck to trip the shutter at the right moment. But the darkroom is where a good photograph can be made into a great one. Whether it's adjusting the contrast or cropping to improve the composition the darkroom is where the truth is found.

This post may be a little off topic for this tribe but I was wondering...anyone have an opinion on what a good price for one of these fine little rangefinder type cameras might be? There's one on the back shelf of the pawn shop down the street in pretty good condition. The broker wants $70. I might be able to talk him down a bit?? Anyone??

Yesterday I realized the lens was throwing a ghost image or double image to the lower right of the printing area. Very strange. Any suggestions on how I start trouble shooting this.

Have members of the tribe ever experimented with any alternative process printing, such as Platinum/Palladium prints or cyanotypes? I've always been fascinated by these truly "handmade" types of prints, where you not only go through the steps of taking a photograph, developing the film, and exposing/developing the print, but make the print paper yourself as well. The differences in tonal ranges and overall feel of the print with a platinum/paladium process, and the uniqueness of a full tone range "blue and white" cyanotype, are just amazing when compared to a regular B&W silver print.

I would love to try my hand at platinotype (Platinum prints), but from what I've read the quirky light sensitivity of the emulsion requires you to make a contact print of the image, rather than using an enlarger. And with the majority of my camera equipment being 35mm (save for a new Mamiya 645E that I'm still getting used to), my negatives are no where near big enough to contact print from.

I guess I'll have to save alternative printing for when I build my own view camera (http://www.benderphoto.com).

If any of you are interested in learning more about platinum/paladium printing, cyanotype, or any other alternative process printing, I've collected quite a few links on the subject. Here are some example prints of platinotypes and cyanotypes (respectively):
